How recommendations work
Recommendations should come with reasons—and an explanation of any commercial relationship. A disclosure on this page does not replace a disclosure next to a specific story or link.
Affiliate links
Where a story or recommendation uses affiliate links, we may earn a commission if you buy through those links. We identify the relationship with the content and mark paid retailer links. A commission does not guarantee a positive verdict. We do not currently represent this publication as enrolled in any particular affiliate program simply because a retailer is mentioned.
Samples and paid partnerships
A gifted product, loan, hosted trip, discount, or other material benefit should identify who provided it and the circumstances. Sending a sample does not guarantee coverage. Paid stories are labeled “Advertisement · Sponsored” before the reader opens them and at the start of the story, with the sponsor identified. Multiple relationships are disclosed together when relevant.
Our recommendation basis
Personally tested means the writer actually used the item in the described circumstances. Research-based recommendations explain their sources and limitations. Manufacturer claims are attributed as claims; they are not automatically our findings. We explain what we liked, what we did not, who an item may suit, and whether we would buy it.
“Clean-ish” is an editorial description, not a safety certification. A story should explain the specific criteria and tradeoffs. Broad health, safety, environmental, or performance claims need appropriate evidence; a disclaimer does not make an unsupported claim acceptable.
Prices, links, and questions
Prices and availability may change. Check retailer details before purchasing. If a disclosure seems unclear, contact the editorial desk. Our editorial standards explain sources, corrections, and changes of opinion.
